What is Time Together? Time Together is an exciting initiative from TimeBank, the volunteering charity. How does it work? The scheme matches refugees with volunteer mentors to give them support and encouragement as they settle into their new communities. Volunteer mentors spend about 5 hours a month with their mentee, supporting them as they pursue their goals- in education, training, employment and integration. The mentor role: Mentors guide and coach, motivate, encourage and inspire. They are friends and networkers, giving knowledge where they can, and advice about where to get information when they don’t have all answers. Mentors don’t have to be professional advisors or counsellors- they just need to be resourceful and to empower their mentee to make positive changes in their life in order to achieve fuller integration. The role of a mentor is to:
UK citizens can use their professional experience to benefit a refugee from the same professional background, or simply introduce a newcomer to the UK and make it seem more like home.
